Pockets of X is a meditation retreat, where the space is modeled after the idea “pockets of joy.” The site aims to provide each visitor various forms of relaxation and healing, intending to transcend the differences between everyone through a multi-functional spaces.
The retreat acts as a bubble to the outside world, while providing additional bubbles within the site. Upon entry to the site, the entire retreat sits upon a slight ramp, indicating that these Pockets of X are accessible to everyone. Color, and its respective association, influenced the programming of each room and flow of movement between spaces.
The design process involved creating a table for the users, a conceptual model and collage of the space, draft model, and final model, with sections and plans.
